Built in 1587, The Rose, an earlier Elizabethan theatre than the Globe nearby, was home to Shakespeare's performers and the first playhouse to host any of his plays. The site was rediscovered on Park Street in Southwark in 1989, so visit from 10am to 5pm today to explore the remains and an exhibition displaying the archaeological finds at the site. (Nearest tube: Blackfriars)
