From the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries, European artists arriving in Istanbul and the Ottoman Empire encountered cultures, crafts, designs and fashions that they'd never seen before, which they depicted in their paintings. One of the largest collections of these artworks is housed at Istanbul's Pera Museum, on Mesrutiyet Caddesi in Beyoglu - and, as it's Friday, it's open late and you can see them all for free from 6-10pm. | |||
